Varanasi, India’s oldest living city was one of my life’s most memorable experiences. Be it crowded ghats with priests and saadhus or sunrise at Ganges or a sunset with Ganga aarthi bells, these are countless sights that will remain with you even after you leave. Dying in Varanasi is seen as auspicious, as it ends the cycle of rebirth. Here you, will see the unblemished , everlasting pageantry of the cycle of life and death on full display.
I have spent two days roaming around ages-old, maze-like streets and the experience is unforgettable. Here are a few of my favourite photos from the Holi City where life takes place all around you.
First part of this set has images shot on Film (Nikon f5 /Kodak Portra 160 / Ilford), followed by shots taken on Nikon D3s.
Inspired by the great Joey L’s ‘Holy Men‘ series.
